boston food reviews writingToday I went to the Sunset Cantina in Allston to have lunch. On the wall they had a video screen that showed random videos and advertisements, which in my personal parlance I refer to as a Destract-o-tron. Right after a truly frightening video of highly disturbing poodle-human hybrids exercising, which I was able to find on youtube, there was a PETA ad with some naked D-list starlet lying on a bunch of red chilis. The tag line said, “Spice up your life – Go vegetarian.”

Here it is:

The naked celeb was enough to make me look up from my delicious blackened swordfish steak salad for a moment and then continue with my lunch. Then suddenly the ad flashed away, and in its place was this:

Well I had a very good laugh. Not only because of the content of the ad, but also because the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association clearly must have paid extra to have this ad come on directly after the PETA ad. Counter-advertising at its finest.

Incidentally, I found a very cool application on Bovine Myology (study of cow muscles) that shows a 3D rotating MRI-like cross section of the cow, check it out here.
