See Ming Tsai and a Cranberry Bog at Patriot Place–Oct. 15, 17, 18

Pats and Revs enthusiasts are invited to cheer on their native cranberry at the “Patriot Place Bog” Oct. 15, 17, 18 in Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Mass.

Festivities will kick-off on Oct. 15 as three finalists from Ocean Spray’s first Tailgating Recipe Contest compete for the title, “Unofficial Official Tailgate Recipe of the New England Patriots.” Chef Ming Tsai, host of public television’s “Simply Ming” and chef/owner of Blue Ginger will judge the entries. On Oct. 17 and 18, local third and fourth generation cranberry growers will be on site to tell the story behind the cooperative’s rich agricultural heritage, share their personal growing history, and provide details about the harvesting process.

Nobody is Safe from the Robot Pumpkins!!

Run for your lives!!! The robot pumpkins are here!!!

After a minute, its green eyes start to glow, and it creeps… moving about one foot to the left… and stops. The eyes go dark again. It fades into the darkness. And it waits.

After several minutes and several steps, it reverses direction, and begins to creep the other way. Hopefully before it falls off of your porch.

The folks from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories have created a robotic pumpkin some LEDs, a servo motor, and some Lego parts. Looks like a fun Halloween project for those who are technically inclined :)

Ocean Spray is having its first ever Ocean Spray Tailgating Recipe Contest to find original cranberry creations for hungry football fans this fall. Beginning today, tailgaters are invited to submit their favorite cranberry tailgate recipe online at www.oceanspray.com/tailgating for a chance to win a prize package that includes two tickets to the New England Patriots’ Oct. 18 game against the Tennessee Titans. Entries will be accepted through Sept. 1.

Three finalists will be selected and invited to cook-off for the title “Unofficial Official Tailgate Recipe of the New England Patriots” on Oct. 15 at Patriot Place in Foxborough, Mass. Chef Ming Tsai, host of Simply Ming and chef/owner of the award-winning Blue Ginger, and Pro Football Hall of Famer John Hannah will judge the entries and announce the winning recipe.

Make it at Home: Shiitake and Leek Spring Roll from Pho Republique

Chef Arnond Sreesuvan, from Pho Republique in the South End, has come up with a vegetarian friendly, crispy Shiitake and Leek Spring Roll. The Shiitake and Leek Spring Roll has been offered as a special for the past couple of weeks, and now, by popular demand, the Shiitake and Leek Spring Roll will finally be added to the menu, permanently.

The Shiitake and Leek Spring Rolls can be found at Pho Republique, 7 days a week from 5:30pm-1:00am. This delicious dish includes: 4 Shiitake and Leek Spring Rolls, an Asian Spring Roll Side Sauce, as well as a Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, all for $8.50.

Shiitake and Leek Spring Roll

Spring Roll:

Ingredients

  1. 1 Cup Thinly Cut Shiitake Mushroom (Soak in water overnight)
  2. 2 Cup Thinly Cut Leek (Clean Well)
  3. 2 Cup Sliced Yam Sweet Potato
  4. 2 Cup Sliced Green Cabbage
  5. 2 Cup Small Cut Bean Thread (Soak in Cold water for 15minutes)
  6. ½ Cup Soy Sauce
  7. 1Tsp Salt
  8. ½ Cup Sugar
  9. 2Tsp Curry Powder
  10. ¼ Cup Canola Oil
  11. 2 Cup Fry Oil
  12. 2Packs Egg Roll Skin (50/pack)

Directions

  1. Soak the thinly sliced Shiitake Mushrooms in water over night and soak the thinly cut leek in cold water for 15 minutes.
  2. Once these two vegetables have been soaked, heat the Wok. Add cooking oil into the wok followed by adding the sliced Shiitake Mushroom. Cook for about 3 minutes until the mushroom has dry or if a mushroom smell is present.
  3. Then, add the sweet potato and leek, and cook them with low heat until the Sweet Potato softens.
  4. Start to add the soy sauce, salt, sugar and curry powder and mix together.
  5. At the end, add the sliced Green Cabbage and the small cut Bean Thread and turn off the heat.
  6. Drain and set aside in a container and let it cool.
  7. Once cold, add the mix into an Egg Roll Skin, and cook it in the frying pan until the skin is Golden Brown.

Asian Spring Roll Sauce:

Ingredients

  • 2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp Thai Chili
  • 1 Tsp Garlic

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients together.
  2. Enjoy your Shiitake and Leek Spring Roll by dipping them into your Asian Spring Roll Sauce!
